Floki Vilgerdarson, also known as Hrafna-Flóki, was a legendary Viking and boat builder who lived during the 9th century. He is portrayed in the popular television series, Vikings, as one of the main characters. According to Norse mythology, Floki was the first Norseman to intentionally sail to Iceland. He is said to have built the first Icelandic boat, known as the landnámsskip, and discovered the fjords of Vestfirðir in the west of Iceland. Despite his accomplishments, Floki was still considered a controversial figure during his time, and his erratic behavior often resulted in unpredictable outcomes. Eventually, he is said to have moved to another part of Iceland and continued his work as a boat builder until his death. Floki remains an important figure in Viking history and mythology.
